I think Insomnia has put it very well there on both counts. As for the plus points of the current structure, here's the main one: every match matters.
It tries to cater for everybody but ends up falling between a few stools
Next year will be embarrassing: quarter-finals linking the two leagues. A right sop to the weaker counties.
Aaaaargh! Quarter-finals! I'm getting flashbacks. I'm leaving the tent. I may be gone some time...
Can I get a retweet for "league is league . . ."
But (most importantly!) it will help Cork John - they'll win at least four of their five matches and build confidence and then have at least one game against a 1A side coming up to championship
Offaly would be in a quarter-final ahead of Cork and Clare this year. Oh lord.
So when one door closes, Denis... ;)
Laois and Antrim aren't going to stretch Cork, Denis.
Cork will experiment against weaker sides next year when you'd imagine JBM should know enough about what's his best team.
Ok lads, on to the football now. We've got the league's top two form teams in the Division 1 final and, based on their performances over the weekend, it should be a great game. But you wonder, will winning the league help or hinder Dublin or Tyrone?
Think Dublin are the biggest winners of the league regardless of what happens on the 28th. Gavin's exercised his panel, as has Harte, but Donegal are only around the corner. Dublin's start to Championship is a lot more welcome and they can go full pelt in the final. Tyrone have their eyes on Ballybofey.
It won't make a difference Terry, just another match at this stage
Dublin still have to settle on midfield. For me, it's Macauley and McCarthy/O'Sullivan.
Tyrone have impressed by winning games while changing up their team constantly. Harte wants results but while ensuring he keeps McGuinness guessing.
Morgan, Donnellys, O'Neill have been great. Sean Cavanagh's form has tailed the last couple of weeks.
Not sure the hype of a league win would unsettle Dubs now. Maybe if they hadn't won the All-Ireland a couple of years ago but not now Insomnia. What of the two losing teams folks?
I'm not sure Mayo were focused fully on reach a league final. That Galway game is creeping up quickly.
kildare didn't play their strongest team yesterday - you imagine tyrone were closer to theirs with the starting line-up.
Was McGeeney wrong to bring off J Doyle when he did?
looking at the provinces, it appears all the best games will be before the finals.
bar munster, of course, assuming kerry and cork go through.
Ok folks, we'll call it a day with the following poll
